Solar Irradiance by definition means the average incoming solar radiation taking into account the angle at which the rays hit a particular part of the earth’s surface. Solar irradiance is dependent on the location of the earth’s atmosphere and the latitude of where to measure where it’s taking place. Solar irradiance can come to the earth directly or through cloud cover which is indirect. When we define irradiance further, it’s defined as the amount of electromagnetic energy on a particular surface per unit and per unit area.
Why is solar irradiance so important? It’s important because it influences the climate of the earth and its relationship to the earth determines the effect of long-term climatological changes such as global warming. It can be measured by scientists. The radiant energy that comes from the sun has been termed by researchers as luminosity. This is very important to scientists who want to understand the variations of luminosity and how it effects weather changes on earth. Researchers who are concentrating on conditions on earth that effect climate changes so that we can determine whether these are related to the sun’s radiation or because of serious environmental affects that man has made on global warming due to pollution and the overuse of fossil fuels. Variations in luminosity are being studied to understand the sun’s rotation, convection and magnetism. All of these will be useful in researching solar energy for the future. Sungate Energy Solutions has a large part of its mission the quest to create products that will help mankind live better in the future with a kinder relationship with the earth. Renewable energy such as solar is the answer to the reduction and reliance on fossil fuels.
